|MY FAV INTERIOR DESIGNERS||Geoffrey Thomas Associates - Dynamic Duo|
|5 July 2013|
Upon relocating to Asia in 1995, founding principal Geoffrey Thomas formed Geoffrey Thomas Associates Sdn Bhd along with his business partner, Roslan Said. They are well-known for their impeccable taste in unique furniture pieces, glamourous colour palettes and original artworks.
We caught up with the two after their recent MFID win for their work on Urban 360 Studio.
WAS THERE ANY PART OF THE PROJECT WHICH YOU FOUND CHALLENGING?
GT: The space is a limitation but that just means we have to be a little more creative. It was challenging in a nice way.
WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION FROM?
GT: Inspiration is everywhere really; you can flip through a magazine, see an advertisement.
HOW DOES YOUR HOUSE LOOK LIKE?
GT: It’s a mixture of contemporary antique, a sort of tasteful traditional. RS: Modern contemporary classic.
WHAT MAKES A ‘HOUSE’ A ‘HOME’?
GT: It has to be truly reflective of who you are, be it good or bad.
WHAT ARE SOME WORDS WHICH YOU LIVE BY?
GT: Honesty is very important. Be honest to the client; don’t put something in just because you’ve always wanted to use it.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE INTERIOR DESIGN?
GT: It is something I’ve always wanted since I was 4 or 5 years old. At first I thought it was architecture, and then I got older and realized there was a profession in Interior Design.
RS: My background is actually graphic design but I just like to be in design, whether interior, fashion or architecture.
